EA doesn’t seem interested in developing a new Dead Space game, so Bloober Team has taken it upon itself to create a horror title that looks and plays just like Isaac Clarke’s escapades. Cronos: The New Dawn is its name, and you can pick up on the clear inspirations in the combat-focused trailer above.
Across five minutes of video, lead developers at the Silent Hill 2 remake studio discuss its approach to a “tactical” combat system. In Cronos: The New Dawn, the enemies you face can merge together, including with dead bodies. This means the corpses you leave become “fuel” for the next wave of monsters, which makes them stronger.
There’ll be guns, melee combat, and the classic Dead Space stomp move you can use to take them down, mixed with extra tools and abilities to utilise. You can also upgrade those weapons and your suit across factors like damage, reload speed, and clip size.
Every gameplay clip looks very reminiscent of the Dead Space approach to combat, and off the back of its excellent Silent Hill 2 revival, Cronos: The New Dawn presents another promising title from Bloober Team. It’s due out for PS5 this year, though it lacks a release date at the moment.
